We are thrilled to announce this new line from Charlie Hoppes!
As many know, Charlie is one of the most connected members of the Washington wine community and actively makes wine for a number of major wineries. As part of that he also has access to incredible fruit from Gamache, Stillwater, Ciel du Cheval, and other well-known vineyards that he regularly uses across his winemaking. With the 2014 vintage, however, the winds of opportunity blew Charlie’s way. Each of these vineyards had excess high-end fruit available from contracts that were not completely filled by other wineries. They then offered this fruit to Charlie.
From there, Montague was born.
2014 Malbec (100 %)
Spicy black cherries, violets, and a hint of chocolate lead to a layered, plush, tasty Malbec that will make the Argentines take notice.
2014 Cabernet Franc (96% Cabernet Franc 4% Malbec)
An aromatic array of herbs, violets, leather, black currant, and blackberry fills the nose and is followed by a structured, impeccably balanced, lengthy wine which shines as well with a ribeye as it does a chocolate tart.
2014 Syrah (91% Syrah 5% Grenache)
Jam-packed with black raspberries and blackberries, this medium to full-bodied wine explodes on the palate, displaying copious fruit, gorgeous purity of flavors, and an admirably long finish.
2014 Merlot (86% Merlot 9% Cabernet Franc 5% Malbec)
Deep crimson-colored, it delivers an enticing nose of wood smoke, pencil lead, vanilla, espresso, and black currant. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it exhibits a smooth texture, generous spice and black fruit flavors with soft, integrated tannins.
2014 Red Blend (53% Cabernet Sauvignon 34% Merlot 10% Malbec 3% Syrah)
Offering up a complex bouquet of cigar box, violets, incense, herbal notes, and blackberry, this beautiful red displays layered fruit, plenty of spice, excellent depth and concentration, and enough structure to evolve for 2-3 years.
